Another gorgeous day in the Sonoran Desert, and what better way to spend an hour or so than picking up a few geocaches. We’reĀ now at 666 – OMG – the Number of the Beast! All is lost! Better get out and find at least one more to avoid catastrophic events.

On The Road Again
My daughter Gillian and I along with our new dog, Fergie, took a road trip out to Wickenbug, northwest of Phoenix, up to the mountain top hamlet of Yarnell, and on to Prescott. It was an absolutely gorgeous day for driving and caching. Along the way we ate lunch at Ranch House Restaurant in Yarnell. A return trip is in order.

In Vino Veritas
Most people don’t know this, but there is a thriving wine industry in Arizona. Most of it is centered down in the southern part of the state near Sonoita, but today we went to a few vineyards in the north central area around Page Springs. Along the way, we picked up a few caches, and of course, a few bottles of wine. The weather was perfect, the leaves on the trees were yellow and orange, and a splendid time was had by all.

Fall Has Arrived…
…and about time. Running some errands and picked up another 3 quickies.

I Can See Clearly Now
My 60CSx is acting weird and I have my eye on the new Oregon 550t. Was out with Gillian, and she has an iPhone with the Geocaching.com app on it – very cool – we posted our finds and logs from the field – saved me some after-caching time at home.

Recent Goings On
Been slow caching in the Arizona summer, but it’s starting to cool down and it’s time to pick up the pace. We’re at 629, and it would be nice to get as close to 1000 before the year is out.

Happy Independence Day
Caching has been light. My wife Sharon, and our oldest daughter Gillian went out to a nearby lake to eat lunch and grab a few caches along the way. The day was hot and increasingly humid for Arizona, so our total was a measly 5. But hey, 5 is better than 0, and now we’re only 19 away from 600.

But It's A Dry Heat
OK – so today is the 10th anniversary of moving to Arizona. When we first arrived we didn’t realize how different the heat was from Florida. Yeah, FL was hot – and humid – but there was an ocean to fall into, and a breeze. AZ was – and remains an oven. But I love it.
Anyhow, it is a little rough caching after early morning unless we travel to the northern part of the state, or up to the White Mountains. So my numbers will go down for a while, but I do try to get out on my days off a grab a few.
I’ll keep you posted.
